Title: "Colorful Self-portrait" Size: 9" x 6" Concept: Create a self-portrait using cut solid paper with a significant, limited color palette Formal analysis: An image of myself looking to the side was chosen, which is communicated through layered cut paper. Two shades of pink were chosen for the skin and shirt color, representing my personality. Two shades of golden yellow are used for my hair, since my hair is very sacred to me like gold. Lastly, two shades of teal were used for my eyes and the background since it is a unique, vibrant color.
Title: "Transparent Strips" Size: 6" x 6 " Concept: Demonstrate the illusion of transparency and space through squares that appear as overlapping strips. Formal analysis: Three yellow stripes are evenly placed on the vertical plane. The other strips are cool colors including green, blue, and purple and are placed horizontally. The horizontal strip is to appear to contain the middle mixture, the upper horizontal strip appearing to be below the verticals and the lower horizontal over the verticals.
Title: "Rainbow Weave" Size: 6" x 9" Concept: Create a balanced composition with no value overpowering the other Formal analysis: A muted rainbow color palette of rainbow strips are formed in a weave pattern. I did this to break up the lines and achieve balance, with the lines acting as arrows guiding the eye across the pages.
Title: “Two Marilyns" Size: two 9” x 6” images Concept: Recreate a famous painting through pixelation and freehand cut Formal Analysis: The first image features an abstract pixelation of Andy Warhol’s “Marilyn Monroe” made from handout .5” squares. The second image features recreation of the same painting, but instead it is composed of organic handout shapes.
Title: "Bathtub Thoughts" Size: 6” x 9” Concept: Use a composition and switch the palette with one from a separate piece. Formal Analysis: This piece features a limited color palette that was switched with the original image's palette. Because of this limited palette I was able to focus on value and tone to correctly convey the image clearly.
Title: "Roadmap Rug" Size: 9" x 6" Concept: Make an appealing, balanced composition out of the classes choice of ugliest colors Formal analysis: Three 'ugly' colors of lime green, orange, and beige were chosen to make a visually appealing and balanced composition. This was achieved by combining organic and geometric shapes breaking up large areas of color. I used this title of "roadmap rug" because it looks like a rug a child would have of a town map to play with cars on.
Title: "Transparency Fall Colors" Size: 5" x 9" Concept: Use colors to make inverted colors of transparency Formal analysis: two different panels are used with the same colors. These look overlayed with either a white strip of tissue paper or a dark strip, attempting to make a transparent illusion.
